Policy and consulting
I have advised USAID on Democracy, Human Rights, and Governance programs (2020–2024), the OECD’s Public Governance Directorate (2021), and World Bank poverty reduction and governance programs (2014–2015). My policy report “Namibia at a Crossroads: 50/50 and the Way Forward” was published by the Institute for Public Policy Research and the Legal Assistance Centre in Windhoek.
Support and affiliations
My research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the Swedish Research Council, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the American Association of University Women (AAUW), CGIAR, IFPRI, the Balzan Prize for International Relations, and the Evidence in Governance and Politics (EGAP) research group — $1.8 million in total support.
I am Co-Director of the Empirical Study of Gender (EGEN) Research Network, which I co-founded; an active member of EGAP; and a faculty affiliate of Berkeley’s Center for Effective Global Action (CEGA). I am an associate editor at Political Behavior and serve on the editorial boards of Comparative Political Studies and the European Journal of Politics and Gender.
Press coverage
My research has been covered by The Economist, The New York Times, The Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, FiveThirtyEight, Teen Vogue, Pacific Standard, the LSE US Politics blog, and Foreign Policy’s The Hidden Economics of Remarkable Women podcast. Coverage of individual articles is noted alongside each one on the research page.
